We are happy you are interested in joining the International Yoga Congress 2016 in Brasov and Bucharest. On this page you find all the information you need for registration, travel and participation at the Congress, and to ensure a pleasant stay in Romania. Every second year, ATMAN International Federation of Yoga and Meditation is pleased to offer you the chance to participate in the international Yoga Congress based on voluntary work. ATMAN offers free access to the Congress online and only low entry fees for live participants as we believe that spirituality should be accessible to everyone, and should never be a financial business. Thanks to our sponsors and to the many who volunteer to help organize the Congress we are able to offer translation (English-Romanian, Romanian-English) to all and free live streaming of all talks online on MISA TV. Thus the Congress is truly a celebration of yoga and its amazing possibilities and results.

Are you unable to come to Romania but would like to participate online?

We broadcast the most important events of the congress also live through the Romanian online TV station MISATV. The broadcasting schedule will be announced there a few days before the congress.

General Information

Do and Don’t and Good-to-know during your stay in Romania
  • Never leave luggage or personal belongings unattended.
  • Be attentive to pickpocketing.
  • Be prepared to face begging in the streets of Romania as well as stray dogs that usually keep away from people.
  • Exchange money in a bank to avoid overpriced exchange rates.
  • Prior to travelling by taxi: find out the average price of your journey and do not pay more than you have been advised (see FAQs for typical taxi rates).
  • Romania is a traditional orthodox country. Please wear respectful clothing when visiting churches and monasteries.
When and where is the congress taking place?

The Congress will take place in two different locations from the 9th to the 11th of December 2016 in Romania. All lectures and workshops will take place from Friday the 9th to Saturday the 10th in Brasov. The “Contest for Promoting Spiritual Values” and the ending festivity including the award ceremony will happen in Bucharest on Sunday the 11th.

Why is the congress held in Romania?
Amongst yoga schools part of ATMAN – International Federation of Yoga and Meditation, the Romanian yoga school MISA has by far the largest number of students, and it provided the most volunteers at all previous congresses. Combined with Romania’s famous hospitality, the organizing committee of the V. Congress again accepted MISA’s generous offer to host the Congress. Read more here

The host of this year´s Congress is MISA – Movement for Spiritual Integration into the Absolute.

Who will attend the Congress?

The organizers expect a large number of yoga practitioners from all over Europe with a great number of Romanian participants. Previous events have shown that the Congress audience consists mainly of experienced yogis with profound theoretical and practical knowledge of different traditional yoga branches. The majority are used to meditating for extended periods.

Have there been previous congresses?

What policies should I be aware of?

Please do not consume tobacco, alcohol or other drugs where the Congress is taking place, or in the company of other participants. We also ask you refrain from disturbing any of the activities by listening to music in the public areas. Mobile phones should be put on flight mode or switched off during activities in the halls and you will be asked to participate with awareness and not to sleep or talk during the activities.

Supporting the congress

Where can I donate money? How do I get a donation recipet?
You find our bank account, PayPal mail and all information about donation receipts here. The organizers are very grateful for your help and donations!
Can I support the Congress with voluntary help? In what fields is help needed? How and where do I sign up for voluntary work?
Anyone who wishes to support the Congress with their help is warmly welcome to join our group and to get even closer to the team spirit that makes this Congress possible. You can simply register on site at the reception desk and we will assign tasks according to our needs and your abilities!
Can I embed your videos on my website in order to support the congress?
Our videos are hosted on youtube and you can simply embed them. Below the videos you can click on “Share”, which will also open the “Embed” option. There you can choose your preferred video size and simply copy the iframe code into your website. We suggest that you uncheck “Show suggested videos when the video finishes” and to check “Enable privacy-enhanced mode” for best user experience.
How can I share the congress on facebook or other social networks?
Buttons for facebook, google+ and twitter are on the sidebar to the right. For any other social bookmarking site you need to add us manually from your account.

How do I register as a congress participant?
For participation in the Congress please register here.
How much is the entrance fee?
Entrance to the Yoga Contest for Promoting Spiritual Values of the Congress is free. Registration fee for the lectures and workshops is 100 Ron (25 €) and reduced 50 Ron (12,50 €). Register here. Furthermore the host can claim rental deposits for translation devices etc. The deposit will be returned on return of the device.
From when to when is registration possible?
Online Registration is now open and ends on November 15th. Spontaneous participation without an online registration is still possible via registration on the cash desk as long as there are places available. Entry will be on first come first serve basis. For your Entry Pass register here by 15th of November 2016 ensuring your place.
How do I make changes to my registration? How do I cancel it?
You can cancel your registration here. For changes please cancel your registration and register again.

The congress program and online participation

How do I get the entry badge for access to the congress?
If you registered for your entry pass please bring a print of your confirmation email (and if necessary your proof of being a student) to the registration desk, where you will receive your access badge. Reception opening hours will be announced soon. If you join us on the day of the event please come to the reception desk to pick up an access badge within the frame of availability. Those who have not registered in advance, please note that access badges are given to on a first come first serve basis.
Can I share my entry badge with someone?
No, sorry. Badges are allocated per participant, and cannot be shared or lent to others.
Is it possible to join just for one day?
Yes, you can come just for one day, but the entrance fee will stay the same.
How many people are expected to attend the congress?
We expect over 1000 participants.
Where can I find the program of the congress?
A free programme will be given to all participants. An online programme can be found here.
Will there be several stages/rooms within the programme? Will parts of the programme overlap? Can I watch online later any part of the programme I missed?
Activities will take place simultaneously in two different halls. Lectures though will not overlap all of them being transmitted online by MISA TV. These presentations will also be recorded and will be available after the Congress on the MISA TV Website. Seminars and workshops will not be transmitted online, yet some will be video recorded afterwards being available as well on MISA TV Website.
Do I have to sign up for the different sessions/lectures/workshops beforehand?
No, signing up in advance is not possible. Please take into consideration that places are limited at each activity.
Will there be common yoga practice? Are special clothes/mats needed?
Yoga clothes/mats might be helpful in some of the workshops, but else there will be no common yoga practise.
What languages are spoken in the lectures and workshops? Is translation provided? Do I need to pay/bring anything to receive translation? Do I need to sign up for translation?
Some of the activities will be in English, some in Romanian language. There will be translation provided from English to Romanian and vice versa. You will not need to sign up in advance for translation to English or Romanian. If you come in a bigger group with need for translation in other languages then the above mentioned please contact us in good time under organizer@internationalyogacongress.net to see if we can find a solution. Please bring your own portable radio-receiver or smartphone with headphones if possible, otherwise you can rent a device on site while supplies last. Translation services are free, but you may be asked to pay a refundable deposit for your receiver and headphones if you do not bring your own, which will be refunded on return of the device. Desks for collecting and returning translation receivers will be in the entrance of each hall.
What if I don´t want to be filmed or photographed in the audience?
All Congress participants who do not want to be filmed or photographed can sit in specified areas where they will not be included in any recordings.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Access to the Congress will be granted for anyone over the age of 18. Minors are welcome to join the event if accompanied by a legal guardian.
Can I bring my children? Is there a programme/place for children?
Due to the large number of participants we are unable to provide a separate programme or space for children, but they are welcome to join the programme if accompanied.
Is there a dress code for the congress?
There is no particular dress code required.

For speakers

How do I register as a speaker?

Please register here as a speaker at the Congress.

Is there any mandatory program for speakers such as meetings, etc. beforehand?

There will be a short meeting in the morning of the day of your presentation that we kindly ask you to attend. These meetings aim to create links between the different talks of the respective session and to ensure all technical requirements are met. These meetings will be attended by the other speakers in your session, the chairman of your session, the technician of the respective room and the MISA TV representative. MISA TV is the online TV station that will broadcast the talks of each day.

What are the requirements of a speaker?

Speakers are required to be fluent in English or Romanian. A selection will be made by the programme committee in accordance with the quality of the presentation.
NOTE: the above mentioned requirements are not applicable to our invited speakers (honoured guests).
If you cancel or decline your participation as an invited or confirmed speaker we ask that you inform the organizers immediately at speakers@internationalyogacongress.net.

When should I arrive at the Congress in Brasov as a speaker?

You are kindly asked to arrive in good time, so you can attend the short meeting relevant to your presentation. You will be informed of the exact time of both your session and your presentation by the organizing committee.

What is the audience like? What previous knowledge does the audience have?

The expected audience will firstly consist of yoga students and teachers of the ATMAN federation as well as of other yoga schools from all over the world. As the Congress is an open event, there will also be an audience that is not directly in the field of yoga, but nevertheless interested in subjects such as spiritual experiences, or the merging of spirituality and science. Previous years have shown that the audience of the Congress consists of mostly experienced yogis with profound theoretical and practical knowledge of different traditional yoga branches.

As a speaker can I receive a copy of the footage of my presentation?

Yes, you can. Make your request to the MISA TV representative during the meeting for speakers, or even better on your arrival at the registration desk.

What if I don´t want to be recorded as a speaker?

If you do not want to be recorded, please make your request directly to the organizers speakers@internationalyogacongress.net.

Is there a dress code for speakers?

No.

How can I prepare for the International Yoga Contest?

You can find out here which asana-s and what other tasks will be part of the yoga contest. The best preparation though is your own sincere and systematic daily practice for your spiritual evolution and that will mirror its clear results within your life.

What do I need to bring for the International Yoga Contest?

You need to bring a bathing suit (two piece for women) for the Hatha Yoga session of the contest, so that the judges can determine the correct execution of the asana-s. Yoga mats will be provided.

Who is supervising the International Yoga Contest? Who are the judges? What can I win?

The contest will be supervised by the spiritual guide of the ATMAN Federation of Yoga and Meditation, Gregorian Bivolaru. The judges are senior teachers of the ATMAN Federation. The prizes offered by the organizers, the host and their sponsors will be substantial awards in money, books and gifts.

How many people are expected to attend the International Yoga Contest?

The organizers expect 80 – 100 participants in the Yoga Contest.

What languages do I need to be able to speak to take part in the International Yoga Contest?

You should either speak English or Romanian in order to be able to take part in the yoga contest easily. The organizers will do their best to provide translation if you need help with translation of the questions in the intelligence and spiritual intuition tests.
